GANGTOK,
September 7: With an aim to foster a healthier
society, Press Club of Sikkim and Salbari-based NGO Chimeki jointly organized a
panel discussion, titled “Disagreeing Respectfully” at Manan Kendra here today.
The discussion focused on the ways
individuals and communities can engage in civil discourse even when they hold
opposing views.
The discussion sought to address the
issue from multiple perspectives and foster a more respectful and healthy
society. The panel discussed the importance of respectful disagreement, its
impact on individual and community health, and the role of media and social
media platforms in shaping how disagreements are perceived and resolved.
Moderated by journalist N.B. Ghimirey,
the panel included senior advocate Dr. Doma T. Bhutia, Summit Times consultant
editor Pema Wangchuk Dorjee, and Sikkim University assistant professors Dr.
Sumnima Rai and Dr. Bidhan Golay. They shared insights from their respective
fields, emphasizing the need for thoughtful discourse in a rapidly changing
society.
Civil society members were present at
the event.
