Geo morphometry, lake discharge measurement done on Day 2 of expedition to study glacial lakes

GANGTOK, : A team of State government officials who are on an expedition to study the glacial lakes in North Sikkim reached Tenchungkha Lake situated at 15,700 feet in Lachung today. The team was accompanied by Lachung Dzumsa.

The visit was preceded by traditional prayer ceremonies performed by a local Lachen monk body in at least four locations which were deeply spiritual and moving, informs a press release.

In the pre departure meet held before the movement the team leader Dr. Sandeep Tambe and the Dzumsa had already briefed the team about all the do's and don’ts to be kept in mind by the team while visiting the holy lake which is revered by the local populace as well as all Sikkimese.

The team expressed gratitude to the ITBP for its assistance and gracious help.

On Sunday, the team successfully conducted GPR test, electrical resistivity test, geo morphometry, lake discharge measurements, etc. These tests are crucial if mitigation measures are to be taken up later, the release adds.
