GANGTOK,: Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim has accused the SKM government of being indifferent to the temporary government employees after giving them huge promises during the elections.
Addressing a press meet on Saturday, the CAP Sikkim functionaries said the temporary government employees are facing hardships as they have not received their salaries for months. It is unfortunate that the SKM government has not been able to give its performance report though it has completed 100 days, said the CAP Sikkim functionaries.
“Some months ago the Chief Minister had said the opposition need not worry about the salaries for the 20,000-odd government employees who are being regularized. But it is public knowledge that the temporary government employees have not received their salaries. The Chief Minister has promised to give salaries to the temporary employees from August and arrears to others. The government must give a detailed clarification on this,” said CAP Sikkim spokesperson Mahesh Rai.
Rai reminded that the CAP Sikkim had taken up the issue of temporary employees being asked to get their concerned MLA’s recommendation for their regularisation. We had placed this issue with the State chief secretary and it was informed to us that the chief secretary’s office has directed the Department of Personnel to write to all departments that such recommendations are not required, he said.
If any temporary employees are still being asked to get the MLA’s recommendation, they can contact us and we will take up their issue strongly, said the CAP Sikkim spokesperson. He also questioned the SKM government on its poll promise of implementing the old pension system. The government should explain to those retired employees why the old pension system has not been implemented, he said.
The CAP Sikkim spokesperson further criticized the State government on hiking taxes and fees on motor vehicles and forest produce. The SKM government has given difficulties only to the people during its first 100 days in power, he said.
