GANGTOK: EastMojo’s founder and Editor-in-Chief Karma Paljor was honored
with the prestigious ‘RG Baruah Memorial Award’- Excellence in Journalism for
his outstanding contribution to journalism, particularly in the Northeast at
the RG Baruah Memorial Award’ held at Guwahati on Saturday.
The first
edition of the RG Baruah Memorial Award 2024 is an initiative of The Assam
Tribune Group in memory of its founder RG Baruah, who played a significant role
in shaping journalism in Northeast India.
“The RG
Baruah Memorial Award is constituted in the name of the founder of The Assam
Tribune founder RG Baruah. This year, the first set of awards was presented in
the field of journalism, business, sports and culture. I am lucky to be the
first awardee in the field of journalism. I have received several awards in the
past, but most of them are national awards. I consider the Northeast my home,
and it feels good when somebody from home recognizes you. I founded EastMojo in
2017, and have dedicated seven years of my life for the Northeast. RG Baruah is
a pioneering steward in the field of journalism in the Northeast, and receiving
this award feels great,” expressed Karma Paljor to SIKKIM EXPRESS.
The award
ceremony was attended by former Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary as the special
guest of honour, Assam chief secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, The Assam Tribune Group
director Banita Rajkhowa and invited dignitaries.
An award-winning
Indian journalist, television news anchor and entrepreneur from Rabongla, Sikkim,
Karma Paljor began his journalism career in 2001. Since then, he has been
associated with some of the leading news channels in India viz. The Times of
India, CNBC TV18, CNN-IBN, etc. He founded EastMojo, the first digital media
outlet dedicated primarily to Northeast India in 2017.
“EastMojo
aims to be the largest and credible digital media outlet in the Northeast. We
are focused on in depth video journalism, with the aim of connecting and
reaching out to communities and helping spread their stories. We raise issues
for the rest of the world to see,” said the Editor-in-Chief.
EastMojo
also received the International Catalyst Fund some years back.
Karma is
a recipient of the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in
Journalism in 2011 and 2014. He also received the Reporter of the Year award by
Indian Television Award in 2010, the Best National News Coverage in English at
the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA) in 2013 and around 2-3 team
coverage awards. He won the Chevening Scholarship for Broadcast Journalism (UK)
in 2004. He is also a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
