NHIDCL directed to resolve road connectivity issue in Parakha

PAKYONG,  (IPR): In continuation with the inspection of the landslide at Barapathing, Pakyong SDM D.M. Subba, along with Parakha BDO Kewal Sharma and Revenue officials, led an inspection today in accordance with Pakyong DC’s directions regarding the road connectivity issue of Barapathing road.

During the inspection, the Pakyong SDM engaged in conversation with the officials and enquired about the current workforce involved and discussed the inconveniences being faced by the general public.

In addition, he directed NHIDCL to work in a war foot manner to resolve the issue of road connectivity at the earliest. In response, the officials also agreed to complete restoration of works within this week, if weather permits.

Given that the road was entirely obstructed, the district administration made necessary arrangements to ensure that rations and other essential supplies were delivered in a timely manner to all affected villagers.

Prior to that, another visit was conducted by the district collector on August 31 to evaluate the situation. It was observed that there was one house belonging to Mr Ongden Bhutia, which was instructed to be demolished. The landowner was directed to dismantle their residence by September 15.

However, during the inspection on August 31, the landowner was directed to complete demolition within a week. Likewise, NHIDCL was instructed to provide additional support in terms of machinery and manpower to facilitate the prompt dismantling of the house.

During this period, NHIDCL assured that road construction work on the alternate route would proceed and the road would be connected within 7 to 8 days following the visit of the DC. However, the restoration work was frequently disrupted due to the region’s susceptibility to landslides and high rainfall intensity, leading to frequent occurrences of similar events.

Hence, the technical team of NHIDCL has decided to employ a new approach for restoration to ensure the road is motorable within the next 2-3 days if the weather is clear. Concurrently, protective measures will be implemented to ensure stability of the road stretch.

Despite tremendous challenges at the concerned spot, district administration as well as NHIDCL is working on warfooting to establish road connectivity at the earliest.
