District administration, area MLA takes field report of Shyari public’s issues

GANGTOK,:  The district administration along with a team of officials from concerned departments conducted a daylong joint inspection regarding various public-related issues in Syari constituency on Saturday.

The joint inspection was headed by Gangtok DC Tushar G Nikhare, accompanied by area MLA Tenzing N Lamtha, district administration officials, line departments, panchayats and local residents.

A press release informs that the inspection commenced from Lower Tathangchen, where the condition of PMGSY road was inspected and found that the cause of the damaged road was due to the movement of heavily loaded trucks plying for the construction of the sewerage plant and also non-maintenance of the road by PMGSY. In the same area, there was a cluster of households which were found to be damaged partially as well as severely due to the landslide triggered by heavy monsoon downpours.

The team inspected the recent slide that occurred below the newly constructed Police Outpost at Deorali and posed a grave threat to the building below. It was decided to recommend the protective measures for consideration to higher authority at the earliest.

The team also inspected the Khadi Jhora, which is as per the public already informed to the concerned department but yet nothing has been done to train the jhora and they are facing grave problems especially the students crossing that jhora during the monsoon.

Accordingly, the WR&DD has been directed to take up the cleaning of that jhora immediately and also to appraise their authority to take necessary action on that jhora.

Further, the team inspected the pending road construction at Kopi Bari ward, where the team found the grading of the road is not feasible and directed the Roads & Bridges department to re-schedule for survey and take necessary action to complete the pending road construction.

During the inspection, it was also found that the contractor while excavating the earth had damaged the steel bridge which connected the school with that village. The contractor was directed to restore those bridges immediately.

At Jimpung ward, the team was informed by the public that the JJM work carried out in their GPU is not satisfactorily done and there is no proper connection of drinking water pipelines. Accordingly, the Nandok BDO was directed to issue a notice to all concerned to resolve the issues.

The team also went down to see the alternate route to the disconnected road at Dhalal Goan. However, after seeing the disconnected stretch, the restoration of the road was found to be doable and directed the Roads & Bridges department to take up the restoration work.

There was an incomplete fair weather road at Nandok due to which the road surface water flowed down and posed a grave threat to the villagers. After interacting with the locals, as per them, the solution is only if the road is connected till Nandok Gumpa, then the same road surface water can be diverted to safe jhora. The Roads & Bridges department was directed to see the possibilities of connecting the same fair weather road to Nandok Gumpa and avoid the risk/danger posed to the villagers.

The road stretch near Starlight Academy, Rejay ward was found to be very pathetic and as per the complaint received from the owner of the school, the cause of the deteriorating condition of the road was due to the plying of heavily loaded vehicles of Kundan Power Project ltd. As informed, they are not maintaining the roads as discussed in the earlier meeting with the panchayat AND public of that area.

It was informed by the ex-panchayat of Rejay that most of the households under Rejay ward have developed cracks and the land is also sinking.

During the monsoon season, groundwater activities increase in the areas and the places become more susceptible to landslides. They were suggested to conduct a land stability inspection by the officials of the Mines, Minerals & Geological department for a permanent solution, the release informs.
