GANGTOK, (IPR): The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ rally was held today, beginning at MG
Marg and concluding at Manan Bhawan. The event was graced by the Governor of
Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, as the chief guest, and Chief Minister Prem Singh
Tamang-Golay as the guest of honour.
‘Har
Ghar Tiranga’ is a national campaign launched under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
to encourage citizens to bring the national flag home and hoist it in
celebration of India’s independence under the Ministry of Culture, Government
of India. The aim of the campaign is to instil a sense of patriotism in
people’s hearts and raise awareness about the Indian National Flag. The
campaign was first observed from August 13 to 15 in 2022, marking 75 years of
India’s independence.
This
year, the campaign is being observed from August 2 to August 15.
Today’s
rally began with the national anthem, followed by a visit to exhibition stalls
by the dignitaries. The stalls were set up under the Sikkim Rural Livelihood
Mission under the Rural Development department, Urban Development department,
and the Sikkim Khadi and Village Industries Board. The stalls showcased local
delicacies and handicrafts made by women self-help groups from urban areas as
well as from Nandok, Kabi, and Martam.
The
rally also saw the presence of cabinet ministers, MLAs, political secretaries,
advisors, chairpersons, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal
Corporation, Zilla adakshyas, Zilla up-adakshyas, panchayats, councillors, the
principal secretary to the CM, the chief secretary, the Director General of
Police, heads of departments, District Collector Gangtok, OSDs, police
personnel, senior officials from departments, along with enthusiastic
participation of students and NCC cadets from educational institutions in and
around Gangtok.
