SORENG, (IPR): Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya chaired an interactive meeting with the district officers and beneficiaries of different schemes at the conference hall of district administrative centre here today.
The Governor firstly extended his warm wishes on the auspicious occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of the 14th Dalai Lama. Referring to the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and principles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that societies must be inclusive and progressive in order to take the nation towards prosperity and growth. He also shared his experiences of serving as the Governor of Sikkim, especially while interacting with the local communities.
Speaking on health sector, he stressed upon the need to establish government-run medical shops wherein the consumers can avail subsidized medicines. He underlined the importance of gaining access to better health facilities, especially for economically weaker section. Simultaneously, he called for aggressive participation from each stakeholder in eradicating drug abuse and illegal substances. He spoke on the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for the girl child and the need to generate more awareness amongst school children and their parents. He further suggested ensuring establishment of NCC in every school.
The Governor also applauded many initiatives and achievements of the district. He encouraged the officials to put in their sincere efforts and dedication while implementing government schemes.
In his welcome address, Soreng DC Bhim Thatal presented an overview of the district through PowerPoint presentation. He highlighted some of the programs that are being implemented in the district, especially under the Aspirational District Program. He informed about some of the achievements of the district including various initiatives undertaken such as Aaganma Prashasan (door-step governance), adoption of schools by district officers, ‘One Day at School’ programme and easy access of information through e-district. He also spoke on the challenges faced by the administration and suggested for framing policies that are as per the need of the local citizens.
The departments of Rural Development, Fisheries, Public Health Engineering, Horticulture, Agriculture, Health, Education and Women & Child Development made presentations on their respective schemes and flagship programmes. During the presentation, the Governor also enquired about the status of the various schemes and policies including statistical analysis.
In between the programme, the Governor also had a fruitful interaction with the beneficiaries wherein he was apprised on their success stories.
As a token of appreciation, the Governor presented a farmed national flag to the district collector.
The program had the presence of area MLA Aditya Golay, zilla adhakshya Tila Devi Gurung, upadhakshya Chandra Bir Kami, additional political secretary to the Chief Minister, Suk Hang Limbu, secretary to the Governor, J.D. Bhutia, SP J. Jayapandiyan, ADC Dhiraj Subedi, ADC (Development) Gaayas Pega, SDM (HQ) D.R. Bista, Soreng SDM Sunny Kharel, HODs of Soreng district, local dignitaries, retired army personnel and representatives from banking institutes.
