GANGTOK,: Heads of top educational institutions in Sikkim called on
Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Prof.
Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Officiating Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Central University
paid a courtesy visit to the Governor.
During
the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor provided a detailed update on the
institution's progress, its academic activities, and its road map for the
future, a Raj Bhavan release informs.
The
Governor also sought updates on ongoing construction of the permanent campus of
Sikkim Central University in Yangyang, Namchi district and extended his best
wishes for Sikkim Central University’s future endeavours.
Also
making the courtesy visit was Dr. Passang D. Phempu, director of the Namgyal
Institute of Tibetology (NIT), and other officials.
The Governor
also serves as the president of the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology.
During
the meeting, the NIT director gave a PowerPoint presentation outlining the
institution’s historical background, working aims, and objectives, with a
primary focus on the dissemination of Lord Buddha's teachings.
The
Governor expressed his appreciation for the presentation and extended his best
wishes and support from Raj Bhavan for the continued progress and
accomplishments of the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, the release mentions.
Similarly,
Dr. Dillip Chandra Agrawal, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University, and
Dr. Sandeep Kashyap, Liaison Officer called on the Governor, who also serves as
the Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University.
During
the call on, the Vice Chancellor provided an overview of the diverse academic
courses offered at both the campuses of Sikkim Manipal University, at 5th Mile
Tadong and Majitar and also extended an invitation for the upcoming 24th
convocation ceremony of SMU.
The
Governor conveyed his best wishes to Sikkim Manipal University and expressed
his support for its continued success.
