GANGTOK,: The ruling SKM on Wednesday constituted a 5-member Parliamentary
Board for the upcoming bye-election of Soreng-Chakung and Namchi-Singhithang
Assembly constituencies.
SKM
working president KN Lepcha heads the parliamentary board which also has chief
coordinator Sonam Lama, secretary general Arun Upreti, senior vice president
Bhoj Raj Rai and senior vice president Nar Bahadur Dahal as members.
As per the
SKM office order, the parliamentary board will decide the party’s candidatures
for the bye-elections in the two constituencies.
The ECI
has announced that bypolls for Soreng-Chakung and Namchi-Singhithang
constituencies will take place on November 13. Counting of votes is to be held
on November 23.
The
bye-election gazette is being issued on October 18 (Friday) with October 25 as
the last date for making nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place
on October 28 while October 30 is the last date for withdrawal of candidates.
Meanwhile,
the Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim has welcomed the announcement of bypolls
for the two constituencies. The party said it would be fielding capable and
experienced candidates in these two seats who are committed to serve the people
and work for progress of the State.
“We are
confident that conscious voters will extend their support to the CAP Sikkim
candidates that will enable our party to win with clear margins. This victory
will push Sikkim towards a new era of transparency and accountability. We
appeal to the people to take a correct decision in this historic opportunity
and strengthen democracy in Sikkim,” said CAP Sikkim in a press statement.
