PM to address closing ceremony of Sikkim’s Statehood Golden Jubilee Celebrations

GANGTOK,: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a grand public welcome by Sikkimas he landed in Gangtok for a two-day visit on Monday afternoon.

People from all walks of life including the local indigenous communities in their traditional attire, organisations and students had lined up along the NH 10 from Deorali to Zero Point since morning hours to greet and welcome the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister landed at Libing Helipad, Deorali at around 3:40 pm, and boarded a special open-top vehicle to greet the people of Sikkim. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay and State BJP president DR Thapaduring the roadshow.

“Citizens from all walks of life gathered in large numbers to greet him, reflecting the deep respect and warm affection the people of Sikkim hold for his leadership. It was indeed an honour to join him during the roadshow and witness the overwhelming love and support of the people firsthand,” said the Chief Minister.

In a display of rich cultural heritage and unity, people from different walks of life came out in large numbers, adorned in traditional attire representing the diverse communities of the State. Students, local residents, and cultural groups are all lined up together with great enthusiasm, reflecting the collective pride and spirit of the people of Sikkim during this historic milestone.

The welcoming scenes are marked by colorful traditional costumes, coordinated receptions, and a festive ambience across key locations, symbolising the State’s deep respect and warm hospitality towards the visiting dignitary.

The Prime Minister later arrived at LokBhawan, Gangtok, where he was received by Governor Om PrakashMathur.

On social media, the Prime Minister shared: “It is wonderful to be in Gangtok, Sikkim to take part in the closing ceremony of the 50th Statehood Day celebrations of this great state. The visit began with a big roadshow in the city. I thank the people for their blessings and affection.”

On April 28, the Prime Minister will attend the closing ceremony marking 50 years of the Statehood at Paljor Stadium where he will inaugurate, launch and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs. 4,000 crore across the State. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

These projects span a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture, and are aimed at accelerating holistic and inclusive development in Sikkim.
