Essential agricultural inputs & support extended to Gnathang farmers

GANGTOK, : Gnathang-Machong MLA Pamin Lepcha on Friday attended the training-cum-distribution programme of various components under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), organised by the Agriculture department, Government of Sikkim, at Samaj Ghar, Changu, under Gnathang GPU.

The programme was graced by the presence of the zilla panchayat and panchayat members of Gnathang GPU under Gnathang Machong GPU, along with senior officials from the Agriculture department, including Tshering Norbu Bhutia, additional director (PMKSY), Agriculture department head office; Yogesh Sharma, joint director-cum-project director (ATMA), Gangtok District; Bharat Sharma, DDO & deputy director, Agriculture, Gangtok District; Hissay Bhutia, deputy director, Agriculture, Gangtok; Sushila Pradhan, deputy director, Agriculture, Gangtok, and other departmental officials and staff.

The villages under Gnathag GPU have been identified as Vibrant Village Programme clusters under Gangtok District.

Under this programme, various essential agricultural inputs, equipment, seeds, saplings, tools, and machinery—including poly-houses, irrigation materials, vegetable seeds, fruit plants, garden tools, agro-nets, and small processing units—were distributed to farmers and Yak owners of the identified villages, a press release informs.

“This initiative reflects the Indian Government’s strong commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing income generation, promoting sustainable agriculture, and improving the quality of life in Vibrant Village areas. Such programmes not only support agricultural development but also help in strengthening rural self-reliance and preserving traditional livelihoods,” said the Gnathang-Machong MLA.

Lepcha thanked the Agriculture department for extending these valuable facilities and opportunities to the local farmers and yak owners. I am confident that these interventions will go a long way in boosting productivity, encouraging modern farming practices, and ensuring inclusive growth in our constituency, she said.
