Tamu Lochar celebrated at Namthang

NAMCHI, (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and his spouse Krishna Rai graced the State Level Tamu Lochar celebrations organised by All Sikkim Gurung (Tamu) Buddhist Association (ASGTBA) at the playground of Bal Krishna Kasaju Senior Secondary School, Namthang, today.
The festival had the presence of MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba, cabinet ministers, dignitaries, officials, members of the association and public at large.
The Chief Minister extended his warm greetings to all the Gurung community for the grand celebration of Tamu Lochar. He stated that though Sikkim is home for people belonging to different communities inheriting different cultures and traditions, each carrying its own significance, yet we all live in total peace and harmony respecting each other's culture and religion.
The Chief Minister added that community festival should be celebrated enthusiastically every year so that the coming generation learn and preserve their traditions. He further assured that the government shall always respect and give equal opportunity to each and every people belonging to different communities. He further stated to provide full support for different developmental projects envisioned by the public of Namthang-Rateypani constituency.
The Chief Minister expressed his deep condolence on the death of the brave-hearted Dr. Sanjay Upreti, who succumbed to multiple organ failure on December 24. He added that Dr. Sanjay Upreti was not only a doctor but also a good human being who sacrificed his life while saving the life of the health worker and as such for the first time, in the history of Sikkim, the last rites of Dr. Upreti were carried out with full State honour at Mamring, South Sikkim. He also expressed his sincere respect and sympathy towards the bereaved family.
During the programme, felicitation and memento was also presented to the Chief Minister and his spouse for their immense love and support towards the Gurung community by All Sikkim Gurung (Tamu) Buddhist Association.
Minister-cum-area MLA Sanjeet Kharel was also felicitated by the committee member for his dedication on making this celebration a grand success.
The program also witnessed felicitation to prominent achievers of Gurung community – IGP Khilbarna Gurung, Dronacharya awardee Sandhya Gurung, IT chairman Nav Raj Gurung, social worker Bhawani Gurung and cricketer Diksha Gurung.
