YUKSAM,: The Gurung community here is gearing up for a grand Tamu Lochar celebration at Yuksam on December 30.
Tamu Lochar marks the beginning of the Tamu or Gurung calendar year. It is celebrated every year on the 15th day of the Nepali month of Poush which falls on December 30.
Celebration committee president Laxman Gurung said, “This year we are celebrating our traditional festival Tamu Lochar at Yuksam with an aim to bring youngsters from the community on a common platform. We also aim to sensitise the youngsters on traditions, customs and cultures of Gurung community. We have included cultural performance of other communities as well in the celebration.”
As a part of the three-day celebration, a world peace prayer will also be held at Pema Choeling Dharma Centre, at Yuksam.
SLA deputy Speaker Sangay Lepcha, who is also the area MLA, is scheduled to attend the celebration as the chief guest.
The event will be celebrated following the all Covid-19 protocols, informed the organising committee.
