GANGTOK,: Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was felicitated by Global Bhutanese Literary Organisation (GBLO) at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for his contributions to preserve and enrich Nepali language and literature.
A SDF press release informs that the GLBO felicitation was accorded to the former Chief Minister of Sikkim on the second day of the Grand International Creative Ceremony-V hosted by GBLO from July 29 to 31.
Chamling, the chief guest on the occasion, spoke on the importance of literature which gives vision and expressions in a society. Literature, arts and music provides value to the life of a person and makes him humane, compassionate and helpful. Literature inspires us to do our karma, he said.
Chamling recollected how he initiated Nirman publication through funds amounting to Rs. 907 raised by playing Deusi-Bhailo in 1978. He shared about the Nepali literary works done by Nirman Prakashan in these 44 years.
“Though our nationality, citizens and countries are different but wherever we are settled, we must not forget our Nepali language and culture. This is our identity and existence which we must preserve by working in a collective manner,” said the former Chief Minister at the event.
Celebrated personalities and leaders in Nepali literature, culture and arts from Nepal, India, US, Mexico, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and other nations took part in the GBLO event, the SDF release mentions.
