PAKYONG, (IPR): In a significant step towards
improving agricultural data collection and crop estimation techniques, the
Agriculture Census Unit, Krishi Bhawan, Tadong in coordination with the
Agriculture department, Pakyong organized a comprehensive training session for
the Agriculture Census Phase 2 & 3 and the Digital General Crop Estimation
Survey (DGCES).
The
training program, aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of field
personnel, was attended by all additional directors of the Agriculture and
Horticulture department, deputy directors, Agricultural Development Officers
(ADOs), Agricultural Instructors (AIs), Village Level Workers (VLWs), Field
Assistants (FAs), supervisors, enumerators, and staff from the Agriculture
Census Unit.
Tshering
Chophel Bhutia, additional director of the Agriculture & Horticulture department,
delivered an insightful address, highlighting the significance of the
Agriculture Census in boosting the agricultural sector.
The
event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Anjana Pradhan, ADO of the
Agriculture Census Unit, who set the tone for the training. She emphasized the
importance of accurate data collection in shaping policies for the future of
agriculture in the region.
A
detailed Power Point presentation on the guidelines for Agriculture Census
Phases 2 & 3 was presented by Rebecca Gurung, deputy director of the
Agriculture department. In her presentation, she also provided an overview of
the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES), explaining its role in the
modernized process of crop estimation.
Dewas
Sharma, Krishi Sevak and staff of the Agriculture Census, then gave an in-depth
presentation on the workings of the DGCES, detailing the new digital approach
to crop estimation and data collection.
The
training concluded with a practical, hands-on session led by Anusha Subba and
Dr. Sangay Bhutia, staff members of the Agriculture Census Unit. The session
focused on the application and use of digital tools designed for the census and
crop estimation surveys.
The
Agriculture Census and DGCES are essential initiatives that aim to enhance the
accuracy of agricultural data, providing valuable insights for future
agricultural planning, development, and policy making in the region.
