GANGTOK: Twenty two new Covid-19 positive cases were reported on Wednesday including a female worker of Sun Pharma factory, Setipool near Ranipool. The State’s active case tally is now 338.
In his health bulletin on Thursday evening, Health director general-cum-secretary Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia informed that the 55-year-old had reported to the flu clinic at STNM hospital and tests confirmed that she was infected with coronavirus. She was also a contact of the Rangpo funeral gathering which has resulted in multiple Covid-19 cases in Sikkim.
Thirteen more contacts of the Chanatar and Mining positive cases have tested positive in the rapid antigen testing conducted yesterday.
During the RT-PCR testing at STNM hospital viral lab, four more persons were found Covid-19 positive. Two were from a facility quarantine centre and two from a paid quarantine centre.
A worker of Zydus pharma company tested positive during rapid antigen testing of contacts at Singtam.
In a welcome development, Dr. Pempa shared that all the contacts of the Krishi Bhawan employee who used to stay at working women’s hostel in Deorali have tested negative.
Meanwhile, the east district administration today sealed the Sun Pharma factory to contain the spread of the contagion. All employees and workers of the factory have been directed to strictly stay under home quarantine till further orders.
The east district administration also notified four areas including one locality in Gangtok as containment zones till further orders following detection of Covid-19 cases.
The IBM area and Majhigaon area of Rangpo have been declared as containment zones.
In Gangtok, the postal department residential colony above TNA school is now a containment zone. Similarly, the DPH ward under Nandok-Saramsa GPU was also declared as a containment zone.
So far, 122 persons have been discharged after recovering from Covid-19 in Sikkim.
