GANGTOK, : The cluster-level workshop for the Special Numeracy Programme, a significant initiative aimed at bolstering foundational numeracy skills among young learners, was successfully conducted from March 10 to 13.

The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from over 980 primary school teachers specializing in mathematics instruction for students in Classes 1 and 2 in government schools across Sikkim, a press release informs.

Organized with the goal of enhancing numeracy skills and equipping teachers with innovative and effective teaching methodologies, the workshop was spearheaded by a dedicated team of 34 members from the State Resource Group, supported by 45 selected mentor teachers. To ensure widespread reach and accessibility, the event was hosted at 46 venues strategically distributed across 6 districts and 34 blocks of Sikkim.

The core objective of the workshop was to solidify foundational mathematics education and cultivate a strong understanding of numeracy concepts among young students. The participating teachers engaged in a diverse range of interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and collaborative discussions meticulously designed to refine their teaching strategies and classroom practices.

A comprehensive monthly plan was provided to each teacher, outlining a structured approach to conducting numeracy-focused activities in their respective schools. Additionally, the workshop featured live demonstrations with children from the venue schools, offering practical insights into implementing the strategies learned, the release mentions.

Teachers expressed their profound appreciation for the invaluable opportunity to learn from seasoned mentors and exchange best practices with fellow educators from different regions. This collaborative learning experience is anticipated to have a lasting and positive impact on the quality of mathematics education imparted in the State's primary schools.

The Education department extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the resource persons, mentor teachers, and participants for their active involvement and unwavering commitment to improving numeracy outcomes among young learners.
