GANGTOK, : The cluster-level workshop for the Special Numeracy Programme, a
significant initiative aimed at bolstering foundational numeracy skills among
young learners, was successfully conducted from March 10 to 13.
The
workshop saw enthusiastic participation from over 980 primary school teachers
specializing in mathematics instruction for students in Classes 1 and 2 in
government schools across Sikkim, a press release informs.
Organized
with the goal of enhancing numeracy skills and equipping teachers with
innovative and effective teaching methodologies, the workshop was spearheaded
by a dedicated team of 34 members from the State Resource Group, supported by 45
selected mentor teachers. To ensure widespread reach and accessibility, the
event was hosted at 46 venues strategically distributed across 6 districts and
34 blocks of Sikkim.
The
core objective of the workshop was to solidify foundational mathematics education
and cultivate a strong understanding of numeracy concepts among young students.
The participating teachers engaged in a diverse range of interactive sessions,
hands-on activities, and collaborative discussions meticulously designed to
refine their teaching strategies and classroom practices.
A
comprehensive monthly plan was provided to each teacher, outlining a structured
approach to conducting numeracy-focused activities in their respective schools.
Additionally, the workshop featured live demonstrations with children from the
venue schools, offering practical insights into implementing the strategies
learned, the release mentions.
Teachers
expressed their profound appreciation for the invaluable opportunity to learn
from seasoned mentors and exchange best practices with fellow educators from
different regions. This collaborative learning experience is anticipated to
have a lasting and positive impact on the quality of mathematics education
imparted in the State's primary schools.
The
Education department extended its heartfelt gratitude to all the resource
persons, mentor teachers, and participants for their active involvement and
unwavering commitment to improving numeracy outcomes among young learners.
“This
successful workshop signifies a substantial stride toward fortifying the
foundation of mathematics education in Sikkim and nurturing a more robust and
conducive learning environment for the State's young students. To ensure
sustained progress and continuous improvement, similar workshops will be
conducted every six weeks throughout the current academic year,” the release
states.
The
workshop was meticulously organized by the State Council of Educational
Research and Training (SCERT) in collaboration with Jodogyan, New Delhi. The
seamless coordination of the program was overseen by Rajiv Philip, deputy director
(SCERT) and Project Coordinator, Special Numeracy Programme, the release
