125th Raising Day of Sikkim Police

Sikkim Police have brought laurels for State: CM
NAMCHI, (IPR): The 125th Raising Day of Sikkim Police was held at Bhaichung Stadium today. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the occasion as the chief guest and he was accompanied by cabinet ministers, Director General of Police S. D. Negi, dignitaries and police personnel from various parts of the State.
At the outset, the Chief Minister inspected the parade and visited the display of arms and equipment at the stadium premises.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his congratulations on the 125th Raising Day of Sikkim Police and said Sikkim Police is known for being smart, disciplined and effective. He highlighted the honour given to Sikkim Police in the IPF Smart Policing Index where Sikkim Police has been ranked 5th with a 7.18 index score. Along with this, he appreciated Pakyong police station, which was listed in the 7th position in the top 10 best-performing police stations across the country for the year 2020.
He added that these achievements have brought laurels to the State and its policing system is known to be one of the best in the country. He mentioned that the people of Sikkim should be proud of this accomplishment.
During the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed a total of 145 appointment letters to home guards, wherein, the trained home guards have been given the appointments letter of security guards and untrained home guards have been given the appointments letters in the capacity of office attendants and office assistant, respectively.
The Chief Minister further suggested that the Police department should plan year-long activities to commemorate the 125th Raising Day at various places in the state. These activities should be combined with the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate the 75th year of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. He informed that a Sikkim Police Memorial will be set up soon and for the same, a proposal needs to be submitted. He further updated that the State government will provide resources and other facilitation to strengthen different police infrastructure by upgrading and if needed constructing police stations, police training centres will be also done.
The Chief Minister also informed about various resources that the State government has started for the holistic betterment of the Police department, namely, increasing of stipend of rations for IRBn in Delhi, children's education allowances for personnel posted in Delhi, creation of Inspector General (IG) post for personnel from Sikkim State Service, installation of CCTVs at police stations and many more. He added that the State government will always work for the professional growth and advancement of Sikkim Police as they are the ones who are responsible for maintaining law and order. He also appreciated their relentless work during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and applauded their assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police S. D. Negi gave an overview of Sikkim Police, wherein he said the first police station was set up in Aritar, Rhenock on November 27, 1897 consisting of one head constable and five other constables. He highlighted how Sikkim Police has reformed itself with changing times. The department has become more efficient, transparent, sensitive, trained and techno-savvy, he said and added that it will continue to serve the citizens equitably.
During the programme, the Chief Minister felicitated various levels of police personnel who have contributed immensely and brought laurels to the State. They were Dy SP Sabitri Pradhan, SI Joy Gurung, ASI Bhanu Bhakta Pradhan, Head Constable Navin Kumar Pradhan, Head Constable Anil Subba, Naik Ganga Ram Pradhan, Lance Naik Pawan Singh Dharnal, Lance Naik Umesh Tamang, Lance Naik Suman Tamang, Constable Eksha Hangma Subba and Home Guard Manisha Tiwari.
