State exploring concept of allocating constituency-wise developmental budgets: CM
NAMCHI, : Chief Minister P.S. Golay attended the Bhutia community’s traditional festival, Losoong-Namsoong, held at Rabongla Bazaar under Barfung constituency. The festival was organized by Brothers United Burfung.
In his hour-long speech, the Chief Minister assured to work for greater welfare of the people of Barfung constituency. He announced that genuine and needy individuals aspiring to start entrepreneurial ventures would receive financial assistance through the Chief Minister's Discretionary Grant after proper assessment procedures.
Golay outlined plans to develop the tourism sector in the Barfung constituency through various initiatives including the construction and upgrading of existing roads to improve accessibility. He added that the renovation and beautification of religious sites would also be prioritized to open up more opportunities in the tourism sector. On the annual Cho-Dzo Tourism Festival held in the Cho-Dzo lake premises, near Rabongla Bazaar, the Chief Minister assured the State government’s support and expressed optimism about its potential to boost the constituency’s tourism prospects.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the formation of a State Planning, Monitoring and Development Committee to ensure effective implementation of developmental projects. He informed that the State government is exploring the concept of allocating constituency-wise developmental budgets once the State Planning, Monitoring and Development Committee is constituted. The committee, he stated, would be led by an efficient and experienced team.
Addressing a controversy surrounding 300 acres of land allotted to Ralang Monastery by the State government through Forest department, the Chief Minister alleged that portions of the land allotted to the monastery had been sold to individuals including outsiders. He firmly stated that the land was designated for monastic purposes and was not for sale. He assured a thorough investigation into the matter and warned of stringent actions to resolve the issue. “Let the Himalayas fall, but we (State government) won’t compromise on this issue,” said the Chief Minister.
The festival had traditional food stalls, a football tournament and cultural activities as key attractions.
During the event, the Chief Minister was felicitated by the organizing committee and other social organizations. He also handed over cheques from the Chief Minister's Discretionary Grant to individuals and social organizations.
Area MLA Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia, in his address, highlighted the government’s ongoing developmental initiatives in the region. He acknowledged the repair work on Damthang-Ravangla road which, he said, will significantly enhance tourism flow in Ravangla.
He also mentioned other road projects and developmental efforts.
To boost employment, he said the government is focusing on implementing various Central schemes including Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme, Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme and UNNATI scheme.
