NAMCHI, (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the platinum jubliee celebration of Rong government secondary school in Namchi district today. He was accompanied by his spouse Krishna Rai, Education minister Kunga Nima Lepcha, MLAs, chairpersons and government officials.
At the onset, the Chief Minister along with dignitaries inaugurated the platinum pillar after which he visited science exhibition and the school complex.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his heartiest congratulations to the faculty and students on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the school. He said the school has come a long way since its establishment in 1947 and is one of the oldest in Sikkim. He appreciated and acknowledged the founding members of the school including the headmaster, staff and former students for helping in establishment of the school.
The Chief Minister announced that the demands placed by school will be looked into and approved at the earliest.
He said that the State government has given top priority to education sector and highlighted various schemes and initiatives brought by government in the sector.
The Chief Minister also informed that the State government, as per the NCTE norms, has worked on regularization of teachers, and filled up vacancies of teachers for the seamless imparting of standard education.
The chief patron of platinum jubilee celebration, Dr. Durga Prasad Rai presented a brief background on the school. He also spoke in details about various requirements of the school and the basic needs of the surrounding locality.
School in-charge Bikash Chettri presented a list of demands concerning the school including its infrastructural developments and other amenities.
The platinum jubilee celebration committee also felicitated the Chief Minister.
Similar, felicitation letters were handed over to former student Dr. Durga Prasad Rai for his assistance in the medical field and C.B. Subba for his support towards the school.
Students Saurav Rai, Binam Rai, Vishesh Rai and Catherine Darjee were given souvenirs for securing highest percentage in the CBSE and school level examinations.
The Chief Minister along with dignitaries also unveiled the school magazine. The celebration was marked by colourful cultural extravaganza and a volleyball tournament in which Daramdin constituency defeated Namchi-Singithang constituency in the final.
