GANGTOK,: The final round of Sikkim Idol, a singing reality show organised by Hamro Varta local television channel, started on Wednesday morning at the VIP Colony badminton court complex here.
A total of 24 singers selected from the earlier rounds are competing in the final round. The jury members are singers Naren Gurung, Remanti Rai and Manoj Rai while legendary singer Daisy Baraily and senior musician Chandan Lomjel, also the founder of Carnival Band of Darjeeling, have been inducted as grand jury members.
IPR minister Lok Nath Sharma was the chief guest for the opening function. He extended his best wishes to the finalists and the organizers.
Chief Minister’s political secretary Jacob Khaling, veteran architect Kiran Rasaily and Swar Sikkim 2007 winner Milan Sharma were also present.
Khaling, also the creative head of Sikkim Idol, shared that the event is a major achievement of Hamro Varta Nepali daily and television channel. We are planning to give this singing reality show a national look, he said.
Show director R.K. Waling mentioned that Sikkim Idol aims to provide a platform to the hidden singing talents of Sikkim. He informed that over 2300 aspiring singers from across Sikkim have showcased their talent so far. He thanked Chief Minister P.S. Golay and creative head Jacob Khaling for their guidance and continuous support.
