GANGTOK,: Governor Om Prakash Mathur and
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay on Tuesday attended the 135th foundation
day celebration of Sikkim Marwari Samaj at Manan Kendra, Gangtok.
In his address, the Governor extended his greetings
and highlighted the contributions made by the Marwari community in the economic
and social sectors of Sikkim. He expressed that the Marwari Samaj has
established a distinct identity with their hard work and rich heritage in
Sikkim.
The Governor mentioned that the Marwari community in
Sikkim has blended into each other's cultures in a harmonious manner and has
become an integral part of the developed Sikkim, working shoulder to shoulder
with the local communities.
Governor Mathur appealed to the youth and
entrepreneurs to seek new opportunities and innovate, so that when the country
achieves the goal of 'Developed India 2047', the contribution of the Marwari
community of Sikkim will be clearly visible in it.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prem Singh
Tamang-Golay highlighted the Marwari community’s significant contribution to
the social and economic development of Sikkim, particularly its role in
strengthening trade, commerce, and the rural economy during the early days when
basic facilities and resources were limited.
He appreciated the community’s spirit of unity,
entrepreneurship, hard work, philanthropy, and social service, and stated that
there is much we can learn from its journey and contributions to Sikkim.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the various steps
taken by the State Government to recognise and support the Marwari community,
including representation in urban local governance, income tax exemption, Rs
1 crore assistance for the Marwari Dharamshala in Gangtok, inclusion
among the 21 recognised Sikkimese communities, State-level recognition of Holi,
and support through various Chief Minister’s Welfare Schemes.
As Sikkim progresses towards “Sunaulo, Samriddha and
Saamarth Sikkim” and “Vikshit Sikkim @ 2047,” I expressed confidence that the
Marwari community will continue to be an important partner in our State’s
growth and development, said the Chief Minister.
He extended his best wishes to the Sikkim Marwari
Samaj for continued unity, progress, and prosperity.
The foundation day event was attended by ministers,
MLAs, community representatives, and dignitaries along with the members and
functionaries from Sikkim Marwari Samaj.
