STNM Hospital prepares for landmark kidney transplant on August 15

GANGTOK,: STNM Hospital held administrative and operational review meetings on Wednesday to finalize preparations for Sikkim’s upcoming landmark kidney transplant, scheduled for August 15.

The meeting, chaired by Health secretary Tshewang Gyachho and attended by Health officials, operating medical team and hospital administration among others, reviewed all the vital groundwork needed for the big day, focusing heavily on the upcoming inauguration of the new organ transplant center and post-transplant ICU. Deliberations also encompassed establishing smooth coordination channels, with particular focus on aligning liaison officers for seamless attendee management and overall proceedings, informs a press release.

“To uphold rigorous standards of patient safety and clinical excellence, the medical and administrative teams conducted a thorough assessment of essential consumables, buffer stocks, and specialized manpower requirements. Behind the scenes, the Engineering Cell—covering civil, mechanical, electrical, and biomedical divisions—along with the IT cell, confirmed that all technical systems and hospital infrastructure are fully updated and operational,” the department said.

Concluding the comprehensive review, secretary Tshewang Gyachho extended his best wishes to the entire medical and support team, urging all personnel to discharge their responsibilities with utmost dedication, professionalism, and close inter-departmental coordination to ensure the successful execution of this historic medical milestone, the release adds.
