GANGTOK,: The Sikkim government on Monday successfully distributed free textbooks and uniforms to all government schools across the State on the first day of the new academic session, ensuring that every student starts the school year with essential learning materials.
A total of 767 schools benefited from this initiative and 40,968 students received free textbooks and uniforms, informed the State Education department. In addition to government schools, all monastic schools and Sanskrit pathshalas were also included in the distribution, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive and holistic education.
To oversee and facilitate the smooth distribution process, all officials from the Education department including secretary (School Education), principal director, directors, additional directors, district CEOs, joint directors, deputy directors and officials from block and sub division offices and others were deployed to various schools across the State.
They actively participated in the distribution and attended the first-day ‘zero period’ sessions, engaging with students and teachers to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
“The Government of Sikkim has successfully fulfilled its commitment to provide free textbooks, exercise copies and uniforms to students of government schools in Sikkim on the very first day of the new academic session for two consecutive years. This initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the education system in Sikkim by reducing the financial burden on families and ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has access to quality education,” said the Education department.
