GEYZING, : The district hospital in Geyzing is on the brink of a significant milestone as it prepares to offer CT scan services to patients for the first time in the region. The installation of the CT scan facility was completed today and the launch of this much-awaited facility is currently awaiting final approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).

With the installation of the CT scan facility, the district hospital now boasts of almost all required medical facilities.

The people of West Sikkim had demanded CT scan facility in the district hospital since a long time, recognizing its potential to benefit economically disadvantaged patients who cannot afford the costly CT scan procedures available outside the district.

Chief medical officer Dr. Bikash Pradhan expressed that the availability of CT scan in the district hospital was important considering the medical cases where CT scan remained necessary for the treatment of the patients.  The introduction of CT scan services holds significance due to its critical role in diagnosing various medical conditions promptly and accurately, he added.

He emphasized that not only would the local residents benefit from this advancement, but also the tourists who frequent the region. Dr. Pradhan cited the numerous instances where tourists have suffered major accidents or injuries and were compelled to seek CT scans outside the district due to the absence of the service locally. He applauded the State government and the Health department for their achievement in ensuring this vital addition to the hospital’s services.

He further informed that the lack of a CT scan facility has historically led to approximately 33 % of patients being referred to hospitals located beyond the district’s borders. Dr. Pradhan expressed optimism that this number would diminish substantially with the introduction of the CT scan facility in the Geyzing hospital. The facility’s availability within the district itself is expected to streamline the diagnostic process, allowing patients to receive immediate treatment without the need for external referrals.

Deepesh Bhandari, a member of Garib Jana Kalyan Prakosta, acknowledged the fruition of a long-standing demand of the local populace. He commended the State government for its dedication to the development of healthcare sector, noting that this achievement is a significant milestone attained within four years of their tenure.

The pending approvals from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and the training of skilled professionals remain as the final steps before the eagerly awaited CT scan facility becomes operational at the Geyzing district hospital.
