GANGTOK, : Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Gyalshing on Friday hosted the State’s first AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) innovation fair, showcasing the talents and creativity of its students.
Around 100 students from classes 6 to 12 participated in the fair, presenting 20 prototypes aimed at tackling challenges spanning agriculture, social issues and healthcare.
The event was also attended by students and teachers from seven neighbouring schools who actively participated and engaged with the innovative projects presented, informs a press release.
The judges’ panel, consisting of Education deputy director Rajesh Thapa, Microsoft software engineer Phu Tshering Bhutia and mathematics teacher Anil Kumar Gurung, evaluated the prototypes based on criteria set forth by NITI Aayog, CBSE, and Intel. Three outstanding projects were recognized as winners of the fair.
The students’ exhibits encompassed a diverse spectrum of AI domains, ranging from computer vision and natural language processing (NLP) to data science, IoT and design thinking.
The students had engaged in a month-long creative process that involved brainstorming, mind-mapping, ideation, designing, and prototyping. This process ultimately led to the impressive showcase at the innovation fair, the release mentions.
The event was attended by chief education officer Subbiah Goundar and other education department officials.
The release adds that school principal Sushma Subba, alongside four teachers - Khusboo Katwal (AI in-charge), Amir Rai (ATL in-charge), Kesang Lepcha (science faculty) and Sheetal Rai (AI instructor) - played a pivotal role in nurturing the students’ passion for problem-solving.
