GANGTOK, : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Special
Weather Bulletin, forecasting light to moderate rainfall and snowfall in higher
altitudes across Sikkim from February 17 to 23.
This
weather change is due to the passage of Western Disturbances affecting Sikkim
and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
According
to the IMD forecast, the district of Mangan is expected to witness frequent
rainfall and snowfall, while Gangtok, Gyalshing, Namchi, Pakyong, and Soreng
may experience light precipitation at scattered locations. The intensity of
rainfall and snowfall is likely to increase in Mangan on February 19 and 20,
with many places in Gangtok also witnessing wet conditions.
Authorities
have advised residents, particularly in higher-altitude areas, to exercise
caution due to possible road disruptions and landslides.
The
IMD has urged travelers and trekkers to check weather updates before venturing into
remote or mountainous regions, as snowfall may affect transportation and
connectivity.
Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official weather advisories and take necessary precautions. Local administrations are also monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
