GANGTOK, : Nagaland-based startup Sutsung Enterprise private limited, which focuses on plastic waste management, is participating in the ongoing Sikkim Blue Duke Festival at Saramsa.

Founded by Akum Toshi, Sutsung Enterprise aims to provide sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic bags. The company has developed biodegradable and compostable bags using PBAT, offering an eco-friendly solution to non-biodegradable plastic waste.

Our focus is on waste management, and we are committed to providing alternatives to plastic waste,” said Sutsung Enterprise’s co-founder Jongpong Chiten.

Despite its small-scale production, Sutsung Enterprise has seen encouraging adoption of its products, particularly in Nagaland.

“Although our production is currently limited, all our products are consumed within the market. Our biodegradable bags have a shelf life of six months and are sturdy even in the rain. The cost per kilogram is Rs 170,” added Chiten.

The company also operates another vertical focusing on food waste composting with insect larvae, addressing the shortage of animal feed in Nagaland.

This initiative, led by co-founder Jongpong Chiten, transforms organic waste into low-carbon insect protein and fertilizer. “The insect larvae are processed into protein-rich feed, serving as an alternative protein ingredient for animal nutrition, while the remaining material is converted into compost,” Chiten explained.

With a mission to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility, Sutsung Enterprise is making strides in waste management and alternative protein production, fostering a greener future for the region.
