KNOW MORE ABOUT PEOPLE FOR ANIMALS SIKKIM
SOURAV CHETTRI (Member, PFA Sikkim)
"Animals share with us, the privilege of having a soul"People for animals Sikkim or PFA Sikkim has been started in July this year. It is an integral part of the main branch People For Animals, India which is run and managed by Honourable Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi. The honourable madam is the chairperson and founder of People for Animals India, which was established twenty eight years ago in 1992. Her dream was to raise that particular voice for every voiceless in India. PFA is India's largest animal welfare organisation with nationwide network of 26 hospitals, 165 units, 60 mobile units and 2.5 lakh plus members. So PFA has been now integrated in many states and soon will be in every state of India which will stand up for the animals. Talking about PFA Sikkim, it is a non-governmental organization. This NGO works on different activities for the animals such as rescue operation, adoption, birth control, rehabilitation of animals, and standing for justice for animals etc. Looking at the numbers, on a span of 5-6 months this NGO has rescued over 200+ dogs and has sterilized over 60+ dogs. The members are from all four districts, which will surely help cover more parts of the state. There is no time or any kind of schedule when it comes to animals and their protection, PFA comes in action.
OBJECTIVES OF PFA SIKKIM1) Standing up for the animals.Sikkim is such a blessed state and we can even say that the animals here feel secure, because the people here are always kind and generous. But unfortunately cases of cruelty is reported here. The innocent is left abandoned at an unknown territory, the innocent animal gets beaten up so badly just to satisfy someone's ego, the animals get stabbed with sharp objects, they get their hands and legs broken and many more. PFA always stands against cruelty.
2) Reaching out to animals. It has always been a priority for the members of this NGO that anywhere, anytime if a complain or information comes regarding any injured, helpless animals, the members always reach out to them and give necessary aids.
3) Encouraging ABC alwaysPFA Sikkim has always been supporting Animal Birth Control (ABC) which is the most beneficial or important part in animals lives. Also known as sterilization, this is done and is must to be done so as to control the population explosion. This also helps the furs from getting contagious with various disease when they start ageing.
4) Encourage the hashtag #adoptdontshopIt's really important to look down for the strays as they don't have anyone to look for them, they deserve the equal love and care as the expensive breeds do. People have a show off mindset in today's date, where they buy an expensive dog and show their lavish lifestyle to everyone. So be a home for a homeless, where they can live a peaceful life. PFA Sikkim also does a lot of adoption, where young and cute puppies are given for adoption to generous people with full adoption process.
5) Creating Proper InfrastructureA proper infrastructure should always be prior to run a NGO successfully. A proper infrastructure will upgrade and ensure more facilities to animals rescued, rehabilitation for them, with a proper transport facility. PFA Sikkim currently is struggling with the land process, for which they have a vision of making a proper shelter for the furs.
6) Educate among the teensIt has been observed that when the roots of any tree is strong the branches and the tree automatically grows very well. So the next aim would be spreading awareness among the school going students for which they will know about the cruelty acts and it's consequences. They will start with kindness and compassion from a very tender age.
7) Advance PFA movementIt's an aim to take this movement further more and more. PFA will look on to cope up with many national as well as international animal welfare groups. PFA is also looking keen to make career opportunities in animal welfare.
FUTURE PLANS FOR PFA SIKKIMFor now PFA Sikkim is working hard enough to get a forest land from the government. The bills and documentation process in processing in various departments. Once the land gets passed, the NGO will build a shelter which will rehabilitate rescued animals.
Secondly, we have an ambulance in our vision which will definitely be very helpful to rescue animals and transport them to the veterinary clinics.
People for animals Sikkim has a very focused and dedicated aim, for which this NGO is looking forward to do work excellence par in the state. Our first motive would be to serve each and every furs to which they won't have to suffer anymore longer. This organisation totally works with full knowledge and with full respect of the law. Our members are always taught with the laws where we can tackle many of the hurdles. The members are taught to give vaccination, so that they can give the vaccination on the spot when needed. Some members are trained to give on-site treatment for some animals, it happens when we are far from the veterinary or where it can be a time when vets aren't available, so they give necessary medications like, first aids, pain killers, antibiotics etc. PFA Sikkim has a strong back from Sikkim Anti-Rabies and Animal Health (SARAH) for they handle the treatments and major surgeries during major cases. In the coming future, PFA Sikkim is surely looking for their own health care and a group of well trained vets.
Basically PFA Sikkim is a bud right now, but as the time passes by this will rose beautifully in the state. For the sake of animals, PFA Sikkim will be available whenever needed to do so. It's working with a limited number of volunteers and it is always a yes for any animal lovers across the state willing to join and volunteer this organisation. Active volunteers, dedicated volunteers and above all a genuine animal lover can always knock the door, when you feel you are willing to do so. Let's do this and make sure our furs don't suffer any longer.
Let's join our hands together in this noble cause and contribute our time for our furs. Because every living creatures in this world deserve to love peacefully.
