Literary luminaries to be felicitated at Sikkim Sahitya Utsav

GANGTOK,: Five litterateurs from Sikkim and neighbouring Kalimpong-Darjeeling hills are being felicitated during the upcoming Sikkim Sahitya Utsav 2021. Rachna Books, a leading books store in the region located at Development Area here, is also being felicitated for its perseverance to promote literature.
Sikkim Sahitya Utsav 2021, the State-level literary festival is being organised by Gangtok-based media house Hamro Varta Television on the occasion of its 2nd foundation day. The festival aims to engage and encourage students towards Nepali and English literature through poetry, painting, elocution and book review contests.
The main function is scheduled on November 26 at Manan Kendra, Gangtok with Chief Minister P.S. Golay as the chief guest. The event would be attended by literary luminaries from Sikkim, neighbouring Darjeeling hills and Nepal.
“On this grand occasion, the ‘Sikkim Sahitya Utsav 2021’ is also felicitating six litterateurs/organisations from Sikkim, Darjeeling and Kalimpong who have rendered valuable service for promotion and enrichment of Nepali and English literature,” said the organising committee in a press statement.
The litterateurs to be felicitated are K.N. Sharma, Binashree Kharel and Chetan Raj Shrestha from Gangtok, Sikkim; Dr. Rajendra Bhandari from Kalimpong and Gupta Pradhan from Darjeeling. Each has rendered invaluable contributions for preservation and promotion of literature in the region, said the committee.
Rachna Books, Development Area, Gangtok is also being felicitated for its immense service towards promotion of literature, especially those of local writers.
The felicitations would be presented by the Chief Minister on behalf of the organising committee.  The felicitation consists of a shawl, memento and citation, informed the organising committee in the press statement issued by committee chairman R.K. Waling.
