GANGTOK, : A man was killed in Lower Mangzing, Namchi district, following a
violent altercation linked to a domestic dispute. Police have arrested one
person and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the alleged murder.
According
to the Yangang Police, at around 12:05 am on June 15, a written FIR was
received from a resident of Lower Mangzing. In her FIR, the complainant stated
that on June 14 at around 11 pm, the deceased, identified as Anjal Rai, was
speaking over the phone outside her residence when he was attacked.
The
accused, identified as Tenzing Sherpa (60), and a 15-year-old male juvenile
allegedly attacked Anjal with an iron pipe and a wooden log.
The
victim collapsed on the ground near the complainant's house. On hearing the
commotion, the complainant and her friend rushed out and found Anjal covered
with blood all over, with no signs of life.
On
the basis of the FIR, Yangang PS Case No. 02/2025 dated June 15, under Section
103/3(5) was registered and the case is under investigation.
Preliminary
investigation revealed that earlier that night, at around 10:30 pm, Anjal had
allegedly broken into the house of his long-time partner, a 28-year-old female,
and attacked her with a sharp-edged khukuri,
as a result of which the victim sustained multiple injuries. On hearing her
cries for help, her father Tenzing Sherpa and the juvenile intervened. The
assailant reportedly continued to threaten Passang before being intercepted and
attacked by Tenzing Sherpa and the juvenile outside their home.
It
has emerged that the deceased and the victim had been in a relationship for
over nine years. Police suspect that Anjal may have attacked the women over
suspicions of an illicit affair.
The
victim was rushed to Yangang PHC for medical treatment.
An
inquest was conducted at the scene by the SDM Yangang, and the body was later
sent for autopsy. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over
to the legal guardian.
Tenzing
Sherpa was arrested and the juvenile apprehended, andfurther investigation is
underway, police said.
