GANGTOK,: Mangan district police on
Thursday reviewed traffic management and road safety arrangements in north
Sikkim ahead of the upcoming tourist season.
Mangan Superintendent of Police Rinzing Chopel Rai,
accompanied by Chungthang SDPO Chandan Chhetri, conducted a field visit to
Lachung police station and check post, Yumesamdong police post and Zero Point
to assess preparedness and traffic management measures.
The team emphasised strict verification of Restricted
Area Permit (RAP) and Protected Area Permit (PAP), adherence to prescribed
timings for tourist vehicles, inter-agency coordination and clear emergency
communication protocols, informs a press release.
The officials also held a coordination meeting with Atul
Bhardwaj, Officer Commanding, 115 GREF, Lachung, focusing on the safety of
commuters and tourists, particularly along vulnerable and congested stretches.
Installation of safety signage and reflectors, along with
expansion of parking space at Zero Point in Lachung to ease congestion, were
also discussed.
Earlier, Rai met Debnath Ray, Commanding Officer of the
11th Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Chungthang, and discussed measures to
strengthen inter-agency coordination during emergencies.
The field visit was part of the Traffic & Mobility
Resilience Strategy (TMRS) for Mangan district, aimed at assessing challenges
on the ground and finalising deployment and traffic management measures for the
tourist season, police said.
