GANGTOK,: NorthEast United FC will start their campaign in the 40th All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2024 on November 14.
They will face fellow Northeast team against Khawzawl Vengthar FC from Mizoram in pre-quarter-final match.
The Governor’s Gold Cup will be the fourth tournament for the young Highlanders after the Independence Cup in Mizoram, Climate Cup in Ladakh and NM Gupta Trophy in Silchar, informs a press release.
Naushad Moosa, the first-team assistant coach and head coach of the reserve team, highlighted the importance of the club’s participation in prestigious tournaments such as the Governor’s Gold Cup.
“It is crucial for the club to participate in high-level tournaments like the Governor’s Gold Cup, which will feature top teams from our country as well as teams from Nepal, Bhutan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This provides our players the opportunity to play quality matches against strong opponents,” Moosa said.
“Our primary objective is to give our young players more experience in competitive matches, and tournaments like the Governor’s Gold Cup are essential for that. At this level, it’s not just about winning; it’s about preparing players for the future. Facing this level of competition will aid in their development both individually and as a team,” he added.
