Rachna Books’ latest title, ‘In Search of Mount Kailash’, wins Kekoo Naoroji Book Award

GANGTOK,: The SKM Students’ Wing successfully organised the 2nd Meet and Greet Programme with members of the Student Representatives Council (SRC) from various government colleges of Sikkim at Gangtok on Wednesday.

A press release informs that the programme was attended by SKM Students’ Wing vice president in-charge Aditya Golay, president Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, vice president Bhim Kumari Sharma, general secretary Rewaz Chettri, coordinators Neeraj Adhikari and Phurba Bhutia, vice convenor Dawa Bhutia, secretary Gagan Gurung, organising secretary Palsang Tamang, and executive members Abhishek Chettri and Phungwan Subba.

Palzor Rilon Wangdi of SLAM, in his address, highlighted the upcoming basketball tournament to be held at Paljor Stadium under the theme “Nasha Mukta Sikkim.” He informed that international teams from Bhutan and Nepal, along with several national teams, will participate in the event. He urged students to witness and support such a vibrant programme and to promote sports culture in the State.

SRC presidents from various government colleges appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the SKM Students’ Wing for student welfare. They also highlighted several issues and challenges faced by students in their respective colleges, the release mentions.

SKM Students’ Wing president Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, addressing the gathering, emphasised the importance of organising Meet and Greet programmes with the SRC members. He stated that Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) is always committed to the welfare of the students of Sikkim and urged students to remain connected and informed about developments within the system. He further encouraged student leaders to maintain a positive outlook, lead responsibly, and work towards the upliftment of their institutions. He also stressed the importance of establishing effective crisis management mechanisms within student bodies.

In his address, chief guest Aditya Golay highlighted the vital role of students in the development of the State and the nation. He acknowledged the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) for significant advancements in the education sector in Sikkim. He noted that the SRC Fest is not merely a celebration but also provides a platform for students to showcase their talents at national and international levels. He encouraged students to balance academics, sports, and cultural activities for holistic development.

He assured that the issues faced by students in colleges would be addressed in the near future and urged everyone to work collectively for the welfare of the student fraternity and the State at large, the release mentions.
