Restoration of water supply pipelines brings hope to Namchi residents

NAMCHI,: The restoration of main pipes and the consequent flow of water to storage tanks raise hopes of imminent relief for beleaguered households in Namchi who have been grappling with a chronic water scarcity issue.

Following an extended hiatus, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has successfully restored the main trunk lines supplying water to storage tanks in Namchi. PHED assistant engineer Sonam Karthak said while water is flowing to storage tanks, efforts are ongoing to ensure consistent supply in the town.

Currently, Namchi's water infrastructure relies on a limited network of pipes with one 250mm diameter pipe, two 150mm pipes and one 100mm pipe transporting water from the source at Bermeli to the storage tanks.

All four main trunk lines supplying water to Namchi had been damaged at the Ravangla bypass tunnel.

Karthak assured residents that the PHED's field staff are diligently working to normalize water supply in the town as swiftly as possible.

Karthak attributed the persistent water scarcity to various factors, including leaking pipes, overflowing tanks, and the surge in residential and construction activities in Namchi. He stressed the urgent need for collaborative efforts from the public and government to ensure sustainable water management in the town.
