GANGTOK,: Darjeeling musician Rinchen Tamang, who goes by the stage name ‘Riko’, recently released his new single ‘Sano Sansar’ on music-streaming platforms.
‘Sano Sansar’ has the 25-year-old Riko as singer, composer and lyricist, Manish Gurung as guitarist and Chandan Tamang as bassist. The song was mixed and mastered at Mall Road Studios, Darjeeling and the cover art was designed by Sawrav Cintury.
“Sano Sansar talks about the love of an individual towards their family, friends, loved ones, pets, etc. and how they sum up being his or her world,” said Rinchen.
“I got the idea to write the song during my uncle’s wedding. I witnessed how happy the newly-married couple was. I wrote the song while I visited Gangtok during 2018. I was sitting at a restaurant, and the owner of the restaurant was also getting married in a few days. He had a different glow on his face and I knew I had to write it. The song was composed within a week but I was unsure about releasing it then.”
The song has received a better response than what he had expected, added Rinchen.
‘Sano Sansar’ is Rinchen’s first Nepali single though he had performed an original ‘Mayalu’ for a YouTube channel. The song had received an amazing response, said Rinchen.
Rinchen had also collaborated with Darjeeling-based producer and DJ TWK and had co-written two songs, ‘Running Back To You’ and ‘End’, for TWK’s album.
Rinchen is also the playback singer for the much-awaited film from the hills, ‘Broken Wings’, directed by Shenpenn Khymsar, where he sang three songs, ‘Tum Saath Ho’, ‘There She Goes’ and ‘Timro Mero’.
‘Tum Saath Ho’ has received an overwhelming response from the audience.
“I may sound over-confident but I somehow knew that ‘Tum Saath Ho’ would do wonders as soon I heard it from my director. It is well-written and composed and is at par with Bollywood. I feel blessed to have lent my voice to a wonderful work of art. Nothing but love to the people who have made ‘Tum Saath Ho’ a part of their life,” expressed Rinchen.
In Mumbai, before returning to Darjeeling due to the on-going pandemic, Rinchen was assisting Bollywood composer and music director Shivi R. Kashyap. He plans on going back to Mumbai soon.
Rinchen is a self-taught musician. He plays guitar and cajon and is in the process of learning the piano. He plans on dropping his next single within few months.
