PAKYONG,: The Sherpa community celebrated Gyalpo Losar in a grand manner today at Phadamchen under Pakyong District.
Gyalpo Losar is a celebration of the New Year by the Sherpa Community as well as other communities.
At the onset, Krishna Rai, spouse of Chief Minister PS Golay, who was present as the chief guest, inaugurated the Red Penda Interpretation Centre at Phadamchen, followed by an inspection of the zero waste management centre.
The celebration started with a welcome address by celebration committee coordinator Rinzee Sherpa.
The representatives of different associations and schools under Pakyong district presented cultural presentations like Sherpa song and traditional dance, Rai Silli dance, Tamang Selo, Newari dance, Gurung traditional dance, Nepali Maruni dance, and Silwa Sherpa dance.
Denzong Sherpa Association president Dorjee Sherpa Pinasa said, “We celebrate Losar for 15 days with family, friends, and the community. At present, our community is happy with the present government as all our demands have been fulfilled, like the construction of Sherpa Bhawan, for which land and an amount have been sanctioned by the government”.
The United Silk Route Tourism Development Society general secretary, Lalit Rai, placed demands like the establishment of a primary health centre, an ambulance, and a tourism office for the tourism boost in the area.
In his address, Power minister MN Sherpa said that since the SKM party came into power, all communities have had the freedom to celebrate their religious festivals. The Sherpa communities has been largely benefited by the SKM government, he added.
He urged the Sherpa community to support the SKM party in the upcoming general assembly election in 2024.
Krishna Rai, in her speech, expresses her gratitude to the organising committee for the invitation.
She said, “With your support, our Chief Minister, PS Golay, has come into power. I thank you all for your support during the 2019 election and expect the same support in the upcoming general assembly election in 2024 by the Sherpa community”.
All communities in the State have been given justice by the present government; in the previous government, only a few communities were facilitated, but most of the communities were lacking, she added.
She promised to work as a mediator between the public and the Chief Minister to fulfil the demands, which were placed by the United Silk Route Tourism Development Society and Gyalpo Losar Committee.
Gyalpo Losar celebration committee president Passang Shenga Sherpa thanked all the participants, including schools, associations, and individuals, for making the programme successful.
The celebration has boosted local tourism and has helped the youngsters take on the responsibility of taking the tradition and culture of the Sherpa community forward.
On the occasion, social worker Kipa Sherpa, choreographer/actress Shyamashree Sherpa, Gyanze Tshering Bhutia of Phadamchen, and Captain Gnawang Namgyal Sherpa were felicitated by the organising committee.
Artists Tshering Leezum Bhutia, Voice Universe winner Pritam Rai, and Sherpa folk singer Chhongba Sherpa enthralled the audience with their amazing performances.
The programme also had the presence of Pakyong up-adhakshya Prabha Pradhan, Culture chairman Sonam Sherpa, and former MLAs Bikram Pradhan and Puran Gurung,
Pakyong additional political secretary Bishal Sharma, the former zilla adhakshya, SKM Chujachen in-charge Damber Pradhan, United Silk Route Tourism Development Society president Samba Sherpa, party workers, the public, and the Sherpa community of north and east districts.
