GANGTOK,: The Association of Physicians of India (API), Sikkim Chapter,
successfully organized its first-ever annual conference SIKKIM APICON 2026 here
on April 4-5, marking a historic milestone in the advancement of medical
academia and healthcare services in the State.
Established
in March 2025 with 26 founding members, the Sikkim chapter has rapidly emerged
as a vibrant academic platform dedicated to continuous medical education,
research, and professional collaboration, a press release informs.
The
conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from physicians and healthcare
professionals across Sikkim, with strong representation from STNM Hospital and
SMIMS (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences), reflecting excellent
institutional involvement.
The
inaugural session was graced by Health minister GT Dhungel as the chief guest along
with dignitaries Dr. Prof. Jyotirmoy Pal, immediate past president of API and
other eminent experts.
The
conference commenced with an inspiring opening address by Dr. Prof. Mona
Dhakal, chairperson of API Sikkim Chapter, who highlighted the vision,
achievements, and future roadmap of the organization.
Highlights
of the conference were scientific sessions on recent advances in internal
medicine, hands-on workshops including ECG interpretation, platform
presentations by MD students from CRH and North Bengal medical college, discussions
addressing current clinical challenges, and active and enthusiastic
participation from faculty and delegates.
A
special felicitation ceremony was conducted to honor distinguished individuals
for their contributions to society and professional excellence. The dignitaries
felicitated were Dr. Kumar Bhandari, Dr. H. P. Marda, Dr. M. Sutradhar, Dr. D.
N. Joshi, Yadav Sharma (advocate), Nimphuti
Sherpa (advocate), and Rajiv Daga (Chartered Accountant).
Additionally,
all members of the API Sikkim Chapter were felicitated in recognition of their
dedication and efforts in establishing and strengthening the organization.
The
conference concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. O. P.
Dhakal, general secretary of API Sikkim Chapter, who expressed sincere
gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, delegates,
sponsors, and volunteers for their collective efforts.
The
