GANGTOK,: A 22-member Sikkim team set off for Bengaluru from Gangtok on
Saturday to participate in the Hero Senior Women’s National Football
Championship.
Sikkim
is placed in Group C and faces strong competition from Assam, Chandigarh,
Karnataka, Kerala and Tripura.
Sikkim
Football Association (SFA) president Menla Ethenpa, vice president Arjun Rai
and general secretary Phurba Sherpa presented the match jerseys to the State
team which marked the official commencement of their journey.
The team
received their jerseys, symbolizing the unity and pride of representing Sikkim
on the national stage, a SFA release informs.
SFA
women’s wing chief patron Krishna Rai-Golay extended her best wishes to team
Sikkim.
“To the
resilient women of Team Sikkim, you carry not just the hopes of our State but
the dreams of every aspiring young footballer. Play with passion,
determination, and make Sikkim proud. Remember, you are not just a team; you
are a force of inspiration. Go, conquer the field!”, said the chief patron in
her message to the girls.
In a
show of community support, token encouragement was handed over to the athletes,
reinforcing the backing of the SFA officials and the entire community, the SFA
release mentions.
