GANGTOK,: The statue of Miwang Chogyal Chenpo, Palden Thondup Namgyal was unveiled on Tuesday at Tathangchen senior secondary school premises, a press release informs.
Princess Sem Hope Leezum was the chief guest of the programme attended by public representatives, retired officials, school alumni, principals of surrounding schools and parents.
It was informed that the Tathangchen Secondary School family had envisaged to install a bust of Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal in the school premises to commemorate his birth centennial in 2022. However, due to certain unforeseen circumstances, the initiative had to be differed until this year. The school was able to eventually install the bust of Chogyal Chenpo which is long cherished wish of the school and the local community.
The installation of the Chogyal's bust was to pay tribute and respect to his vision, concern and initiative for development and promotion of holistic education and to impart opportunities for quality education to the underprivileged community for whom the school was established in the year 1961.
The unveiling programme was addressed by school headmistresses Yangchen Lhamu followed by felicitation of representatives of organisations and individuals who have supported and helped in the growth and progress of the school.
The programme had cultural presentation by the school students and concluded with the blessings from the chief guest, the release informs.
