Tathangchen Gold victorious on Day 6 of CM’s Compound Archery Gold Cup

PAKYONG,  (IPR): The 23rd edition of the Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup moved into its sixth day at the Karthok Archery Field, Pakyong today. The event is being conducted by the Pakyong District Archery Association in coordination with the District Administration Centre, Pakyong.

The day's event was graced by advisor to Culture department and Health & Family Welfare department, TT Bhutia, accompanied by MLA Gnathang Machong and Advisor, Social Welfare department and Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Person with Disabilities Welfare department, cum president of the organising committee, Pamin Lepcha, and several other dignitaries.

The highlight of the day was the match between Tathangchen Gold and KRJ Ralong, where Tathangchen Gold claimed a decisive victory with a score of 79-10. Samso Bhutia of Tathangchen Gold was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his marksmanship and leadership on the field.

Adding to the cultural richness of the day, traditional dance and musical performances were showcased by Barapathing GPU and Parakha GPU.

Following the sporting events, the dignitaries toured various stalls at the venue. They interacted with participants, observed exhibitions of traditional huts, and explored the archery equipment displays. The kite-flying segment brought vibrant energy to the sky as both officials and locals participated, launching colourful kites as part of the festivities.

In keeping with the spirit of community engagement, several initiatives were conducted by district departments, including PMJAY registration camp, free health camp, Self-help group stalls, traditional huts and cultural displays, and archery exhibition featuring indigenous bows and arrows

Additionally, traditional games were revived through side events such as darts competitions and kite flying contests, aimed at encouraging cultural heritage and youth involvement.

This year’s tournament holds special significance as it commemorates the 50th year of Sikkim’s Statehood. It is being held under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan, reinforcing vital messages about healthy living and a drug-free society.

The day's event witnessed the presence of panchayat members, members of the Pakyong District Archery Association and the general public.

The tournament will continue until April 27, along with cultural celebration and community participation in the days to come.
