VC Ganju Lama Museum unveiled at Sangmoo

NAMCHI, (IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the ‘Ganju Lama VC Museum’ at Sangmoo, today.  Present during the inauguration were Deputy Speaker (SLA) Sangay Lepcha, cabinet ministers, Major General Gambhir Singh, GOC, 17th Mtn. Division, officials from line departments, representative from Indian Army, wife of Late Ganju Lama, Mrs. Pema Chuki Kazini, sons Pema Leyda, Norden Dorjee Shangderpa, other family members and public of the locality.

The Ganju Lama VC Museum commemorates and celebrates the life of the great Sikkimese legend Captain Ganju Lama V.C.M.M.P.D. This museum is more than a place it is an experience that allows visitors to take a closer look at the life of an inspirational man through rare footages, a wide collection of unseen images, historic texts and other fascinating materials with the motive that it will resonate with people and inspire positive change in the society through the legacy and values of Late Ganju Lama.

The collection in the display includes his medals, uniforms, artefacts, various souvenirs that he received from the people, institutions from all over the world and other memorabilia closely connected with Late Ganju Lama.

Late Ganju Lama belonged to 3rd 11 Gorkha Regiment and also served as honorary ADC (lifetime) to the President of India till his passing away on 1st July, 2000. The Victoria Cross (VC) was conferred upon him on 24th of October, 1944 and to mark this occasion, the family of the Late Ganju Lama has inaugurated this museum in order to document, inspire and honor the story of valour and of the many other defence personnel of our nation.

During the occasion, a statue of the Late Ganju Lama was also unveiled by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries. A short documentary encapsulating the life story of Late Ganju Lama was also showcased.
