Sikkim Police starts quasquicentennial jubilee celebration with awareness about happiness

GANGTOK,: Sikkim Police celebrated International Day of Happiness with the theme ‘Build Back Better’ in all districts today to spread awareness about the importance of happiness in an individual’s life.

The International Day of Happiness celebration was the first major event organised to mark quasquicentennial year of Sikkim Police.

The State-level celebration was held at MG Marg here with a colourful cultural programme, band display and a talk on the importance of the day.

Education minister Kunga Nima Lepcha was present as the chief guest accompanied by Power minister M.N. Sherpa, Gangtok MLA Y.T. Lepcha, Gangtok mayor Neel Bahadur Chettri, deputy mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, councillors, DGP Sudhakar Rao, police personnel and dignitaries.

DIG (Special Branch) Prawin Gurung stated that this is the first time the International Day of Happiness is celebrated across Sikkim. He informed that India is currently ranked 136th on the happiness index of 146 countries and Sikkim is at 5th position in India happiness index.

A motivational speech was delivered by ADGP (Law & Order) Akshay Sachdeva.  

As part of the quasquicentennial year celebration, various events have been lined up till November 27, it was informed.
