GANGTOK,: The State government on Thursday appointed 1990-batch IAS officer Vijay Bhushan Pathak as the new chief secretary.
Pathak, who was serving as additional chief secretary-cum-development commissioner of Planning & Development department with additional charge of Finance department, replaces S.C. Gupta, who superannuated from the post on Wednesday.
He will continue to hold the charge of Finance department and relinquish the charge of Planning & Development department with DOP secretary Rinzing Chewang Bhutia holding the additional charge of Planning & Development department.
Pathak has superseded two officers both of whom have been given newly-created senior administrative posts.
Additional chief secretary Arun Kumar Yadav, a 1987-batch IAS officer, has been appointed as chief administrative advisor to the State government. As per a DOP notification, the status of the new post is equal to that of the chief secretary.
“All important policy matters files shall be channelized through the chief administrative advisor,” the notification reads.
Yadav was in charge of Labour department.
Likewise, 1987-batch IAS officer G.P. Upadhyaya has been appointed as cabinet secretary. Upadhyaya was in charge of Tourism & Civil Aviation and Commerce & Industries in the capacity of additional chief secretary.
M.L. Srivastava, additional chief secretary and head of Forest & Environment department, will hold additional charge of Tourism & Civil Aviation department, while Jitendra Singh Raje, who has joined State cadre on deputation, will take charge of Commerce & Industries department.
Likewise, there has been some reshuffle among other top brass in the State.
