12 singers to compete for ‘Swar Sargam’ title on Dec 29

GANGTOK,: The grand finale of ‘Swar Sargam – The Voice of Hills’ is lined up on December 29 here at Manan Kendra. Twelve finalists, selected after many rounds, are preparing to give their best at the grand finale, informs the organisers Dream Works Event Management.

Among the top 12 singers, seven are from Sikkim and five from North Bengal.

The event starts at 2 pm with an introductory performance individually by the 12 singers. They will be singing one song each and based on their performance, the top 5 will be selected for the next and final round. In this final round, the top five would be presenting two songs each, one Nepali song and one Hindi song. They would also be wearing traditional attire.

In between the rounds, the organisers have lined up entertaining programmes along with a presentation on suicide prevention from the Health department. 

A certain percent of the proceeds from the grand finale would be donated for the medical treatment of footballer Reeya Lepcha.

Pawan Rai and Nikita Cintury are among the three-member judge panel for the finale. We are thinking of inviting one local artiste from Sikkim as the third judge, said the organisers.

Meanwhile, the organisers have decided not to invite celebrity judges from outside Sikkim. The reason, as explained, was that artistes in Sikkim have earned that respect and acceptance to judge singing events of State and regional levels. Also, it has been felt that a celebrity judge, by virtue of his or her celeb status, tend to overshadow the entire event. This dilutes the attention that should be given to the finalists who are local talents and have worked hard to reach the finale.
