74.85% polling in Soreng district

GEYZING,: The zilla and gram panchayat election for Geyzing district concluded on Thursday with an overwhelming participation of voters who cast votes to their preferred candidates. The massive number of voters’ turnout in the rural body election reflects how much eager were the people to elect their rural representatives.

Under Geyzing district, there are 18 territorial constituencies comprising of 33 gram panchayat units and 294 wards. Out of 18 territorial constituencies, Tashiding-Kongri territorial constituency remained uncontested bringing down the contest to 17 zilla seats in Geyzing district.

The numbers of independent candidates in the race of zilla panchayat members remains 72 for 17 territorial constituencies.

Similarly, in the gram panchayat election held in 194 wards, 391 nominations were filed but 48 nominations were withdrawn and 73 wards remained uncontested. Hence, the voters' preference will decide the fate of remaining 270 candidates in the contention for panchayats from the remaining 120 wards.

Out of 58,117 total voters under Geyzing district, there are 30,260 male voters while female voters remain 27,857.

The election concluded smoothly without any untoward incident in Geyzing district.

Geyzing district registered total 77% votes cast with Karzi Mangnam GPU having 98% votes cast in the GPU. Tikjek near Geyzing witnessed the lowest voters' turnout having only 65% voting.

Deposition and reception of polling teams with their EVMs were still in progress at the district headquarters at the time of filing this report.
