GANGTOK,: Chennaiyin FC edged past Diamond Harbour 1-0 on Friday to reach the quarterfinal round of the 40th Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament here at Paljor Stadium.
The all-important goal was scored by substitute Makakmayum Daniyal in the 51st minute. He was also declared the ‘Man of the Match’.
Chennaiyin FC now takes on tournament favourites Church Boys United, Nepal in the quarterfinal on November 19.
On Saturday, I-League side Gokulam FC Kerala plays against Transport United FC, Bhutan in the first quarterfinal match of the tournament. The Kerala club had narrowly defeated Sikkim Police in its pre-quarterfinal match while the Bhutan club has been given a directed quarterfinal berth.
