DC inspects road accident site at Rolep, route to be closed for 15 days

PAKYONG, (IPR): Rohan Agawane, District Collector Pakyong, conducted an on-site inspection at the accident location in Rolep on Tuesday. The objective of this visit was to evaluate the safety of the area and examine the condition of the roadway for vehicular access.

During the inspection, it was noted that the road remains in a precarious state, with unstable boulders posing a considerable hazard. Consequently, it was determined that the roadway is unsuitable for any form of transportation in its current condition.

In response to these findings, a collective decision was made to implement a complete road closure for duration of 15 days, from December 10 to December 25, once the examination of the students is over since there is no alternative route for movement of students by foot. NHIDCL was directed to immediately put protective measures on hillside such as heavy protective boulders and GCI sheets to ensure safe movement of students till 10th Dec.

The closure will facilitate the NHIDCL in executing essential safety measures and rendering the roadway motorable. The closure will apply to all modes of transportation, including emergency medical vehicles and movement on foot, to avert any further accidents.

Furthermore, NHIDCL identified additional vulnerable locations in the vicinity that necessitate immediate safety interventions. It was jointly resolved to enact a similar 15-day closure order for these areas, thereby prohibiting all movement during this period to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.

Earlier in the day, the DC Pakyong visited the families of the deceased and injured at Barapathing to convey his condolences and assess their well-being.

Accompanying him during the inspection were the SDPO of Rongli, local panchayat representatives, the general manager of NHIDCL, and representatives from AKJK company.
