SORENG,(IPR): With an objective to expedite Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus certification to villages of Soreng district, under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the district ODF Plus verification team led by district collector Bhim Thatal inspected various GPUs and wards under the district today.
The team inspected various village toilets under Individual House Hold Latrine (IHHL), community sanitary centres, twin soak pit system, and garbage collection, segregation and disposal mechanism within the district. The team also took stock of the on-going construction of IHHL and soak pits.
During the interaction with the beneficiaries and community, DC Thatal spoke about the ODF Plus components such as biodegradable waste management, plastic waste management and grey water (from kitchen) and black water (from toilet) management through the segregation of grey and black water by constructing soak-pits. He also encouraged usage of treated grey water for kitchen garden and irrigation purposes.
The community put forth their grievances with the DC such as lack of proper connectivity, issues with drainage and sanitation and segregation matters. To this, the DC directed for prompt and effective actions from concerned departments and panchayats with regard to estimates and construction of required facilities. He has further advised to issue certificate of satisfaction by the consumers to the contractor on completion of any work after the verification from the panchayats.
Thatal also instructed for construction of protective walls at Daramdin GPKP, widening of road at Rumbuk where formation has been narrowed, fencing and protective wall for Dodak GPK and follow up on handing over of BADP-funded school building of Ribdi senior secondary school.
It may be mentioned here that as per the mandatory guidelines laid down under SBM, ODF Plus certificate is to be signed by the district collector based on the recommendations of DVT following the verification of the parameters which includes ODF Plus sustainability, solid waste management, liquid waste management and visual cleanliness.
The verification team included zilla panchayats, panchayat members, Daramdin BDO Ongdi Sherpa, deputy director (SBM) K.B Subba, PI SBM coordinator Nitya Chettri, panchayat inspector Nashwardeep Tamang and other Officials.
